Thanksgiving Day Special
I thought I would share with you the history of the napkin and then provide you with some websites that showed you how to fold your napkins into interesting designs for your Thanksgiving table. However, the history of the napkin is quite lengthy and involves many different cultures, countries, and styles.
Some quick facts that I did discover are that there is really only one true place for a napkin at a proper seating – to the left side of the plate. However, as protocols have evolved, it is not ok to place the napkin at the center of a place setting for a formal occasion.
A napkin is never scented as it could disturb the diner’s appetite or taste and it is never okay to place your napkin on your chair when getting up – this is because it could soil the chair or someone’s clothing if there is food on it. When getting up from the table, the napkin is to be placed to the left of the plate.
